Berhampur: On the occasion of International Literacy Day, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) highlighted its Digital Literacy and Women Literacy initiatives aimed at empowering communities across Southern Odisha.
Under its Digital Empowerment Initiative, TPSODL has already reached around 5,000 beneficiaries across eight districts, covering Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Boudh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Nabarangpur. The programme focuses on digital literacy, awareness of government welfare schemes, cyber safety, financial literacy, solar energy, e-billing and digital payments.
The larger initiative plans to reach 80,000 households across 40 Gram Panchayats in eight districts, particularly targeting youth, farmers, homemakers, small businesses and SHG members. Beneficiaries are also being guided on schemes including PM-Kisan, CM-Kisan, PM Surya Ghar, PMJJBY and Ayushman Bharat.
TPSODL has also launched Women Literacy Centres in three locations in Ganjam district, with at least 40 women enrolled at each centre. The centres provide basic reading, writing and numeracy skills while promoting confidence and self-reliance among women.
TPSODL CEO Amit Kumar Garg said literacy today extends beyond reading and writing, enabling people to access information, understand opportunities and make informed decisions. The initiatives reaffirm TPSODL’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable community development across Southern Odisha.
