Aditya Alumina Refinery launches mobile vegetable vending enterprise to promote rural entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods
Rayagada, Odisha: In a significant step towards promoting rural entrepreneurship and strengthening local market linkage

the Udyamee Veggie Van was formally inaugurated and flagged off at Aditya Alumina Refinery, Kansariguda, under Project Udyamee, an initiative of Hindalco Industries Limited, part of the Aditya Birla Group.
The programme was held in the presence of Ms. Mrinalika Rathore, IAS, Sub-Collector, Rayagada, and Dr. Mazhar Beig, Unit Head and President, Aditya Alumina Refinery.
The Udyamee Veggie Van is designed to establish an organised, market-oriented vegetable distribution system connecting rural communities with fresh produce. Through this mobile vending enterprise, vegetables will be procured in bulk and distributed to remote villages, local retail shops and individual consumers, helping strengthen the supply chain between markets and underserved rural areas.

Bridging the Rural Market Gap
Access to fresh vegetables and reliable market channels remains a challenge for many remote rural communities. The Udyamee Veggie Van seeks to address this gap by creating a mobile distribution network that brings vegetables closer to consumers while improving the reach of the local vegetable trade.
By facilitating bulk procurement and organised distribution, the initiative aims to improve the availability of fresh vegetables, make market access more convenient and support a more efficient rural supply chain.
Entrepreneurship with a Sustainable Livelihood Model
Beyond improving access to essential food products, the initiative places rural entrepreneurship at the centre of its development approach. The mobile vending enterprise is intended to create sustainable livelihood opportunities through a structured business model driven by market demand.
The initiative reflects how industry-led development programmes can go beyond conventional community support by promoting income-generating enterprises that connect local needs with viable business opportunities.
An organised mobile vending system can also help strengthen relationships among vegetable suppliers, retailers and consumers, creating opportunities for more inclusive participation in the rural economy.
Industry-Led Development for Inclusive Growth
The launch of the Udyamee Veggie Van under Project Udyamee highlights the potential of industry-led initiatives to support grassroots economic development through entrepreneurship, market connectivity and livelihood generation.
By combining improved access to fresh vegetables with a business-oriented distribution model, the initiative seeks to contribute to rural economic resilience and sustainable community development in the region.
The Udyamee Veggie Van represents a practical approach to development—one that aims to transform everyday market needs into opportunities for entrepreneurship, income generation and improved rural connectivity.
