Kandhamal, Odisha: NIRMAN has launched a new environmental and climate action programme, SEEDLING (Supporting Earth & Environment through Development, Learning, Innovation, Nurture & Growth), in Kandhamal district of Odisha with support from Terre des Hommes (TDH), Germany.
The initiative aims to strengthen environmental education and climate awareness among children and young people while encouraging them to become active participants in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
At the community level, the project will promote climate-smart and sustainable practices and encourage local communities to adopt approaches that contribute to environmental protection. The programme will also work with local authorities to integrate climate priorities into village and district-level planning and governance processes.
Through these interventions, SEEDLING seeks to contribute to carbon sequestration, reduction of CO₂ emissions and long-term environmental sustainability in the region.
An orientation programme was organised as part of the launch. During the session, the Executive Director of NIRMAN explained the overall objectives and vision of the TDH-SEEDLING project. The TDH Programme Officer conducted a detailed session on the project framework, explaining its goals, expected outcomes, indicators and key activities.
The orientation also included discussions on financial management, communication and safeguarding, highlighting the importance of transparent implementation, effective communication and the protection and well-being of children and communities involved in the programme.
The SEEDLING initiative is expected to create greater awareness about climate change among young people and communities in Kandhamal while building local capacity for sustainable and climate-resilient development.
