K. Meena Kumari, a woman farmer from Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, along with her husband K.V.S. Choudhury, has established a successful horticulture-based farming project in Khallikote area of Ganjam district,
Odisha. They purchased around 15 acres of land and started cultivating Thailand guava and coconut using modern agricultural techniques.
The farm uses drip irrigation, solar power systems, and completely organic manure instead of chemical fertilizers. To make the land suitable for cultivation, they invested ₹82 lakh from their own funds and also received financial assistance of ₹98.48 lakh under the Chief Minister’s Agricultural Enterprise Scheme.
The project provides employment to around 12 to 15 agricultural workers every day. Around 9,000 Thailand guava plants and 500 coconut trees have been planted on the farm. The guavas, weighing between 150 to 200 grams each, are supplied to fruit traders in Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Bhadrak, Khordha, and several other cities.
The farm earns more than ₹50 lakh annually and has become an example of successful modern farming in Odisha. Many district and state-level officials have visited the farm to study the innovative agricultural practices being adopted there.
